New Progress in All-Solid-State Battery Development!

All-solid-state batteries are a crucial new driving force for the development of the future new energy vehicle industry. China has built its first large-capacity all-solid-state battery production line, which is currently undergoing small-batch testing and production.

Compared to traditional lithium-ion batteries, the biggest advantage of all-solid-state batteries is that they contain no liquid, but are entirely solid materials. All-solid-state batteries will allow future new energy vehicles to travel further and be safer.

The advantages of "liquid-free" batteries actually stem from two key innovations in the production line. In the negative electrode manufacturing process, traditional liquid batteries require three independent processes: slurry preparation, coating, and rolling. The dry process, however, directly combines these three processes into one, reducing energy consumption and improving efficiency.

Experts say that in addition to the optimized production process, another core breakthrough is the change in the electrolyte. Here, they have abandoned traditional liquid electrolytes and adopted self-developed solid electrolyte materials, significantly improving the product's heat resistance and safety.

With the production line achieving technological breakthroughs, the next step is industrialization and implementation. At GAC Group, China's first large-capacity all-solid-state battery production line has been completed, making it the first in the industry to achieve mass production capabilities for automotive-grade all-solid-state batteries with a capacity of 60 amp-hours or more.

According to the company's R&D head, the energy density of the currently developed all-solid-state battery is nearly double that of existing batteries. Vehicles with a range of over 500 kilometers will achieve a range of over 1000 kilometers after using it. The plan is to conduct small-batch vehicle installation trials in 2026, and gradually begin mass production between 2027 and 2030.
