1. Appearance inspection
If there are signs of expansion or deformation such as battery bulges or shell protrusions, it is obvious that the battery is aging or damaged and should be immediately stopped from use; Leakage of electrolyte or abnormal odor (such as sour or burnt taste) indicates that the battery has been damaged;
Check for rust or dirt on the metal contacts, as poor contact after cleaning may affect battery performance.
2. Voltage testing
Use a multimeter to test the positive and negative voltage (select DC voltage mode):
Lithium ion batteries (such as mobile phones and laptops): Approximately 4.2V when fully charged and 3.0V when fully discharged. If the voltage is below 2.5V, it may have been damaged due to over discharge.
Lithium iron phosphate battery (LiFePO4): Full charge is about 3.6V, discharge cut-off is about 2.0V.
Multi cell battery pack: It is necessary to check whether the voltage of each cell is balanced (with a difference not exceeding 0.1V).
Abnormal voltage: A voltage of 0V (internal open circuit) or much lower than the nominal value (such as a 3.7V battery with only 1V left) may have failed.
3. Internal resistance test
If the internal resistance is too high, exceeding 1.5 times the factory value, it indicates that the battery is aging and may not be able to discharge with high current.
Ordinary users can roughly judge using the load method: when a load (such as a resistor) is connected, the voltage drops sharply, indicating a high internal resistance.
4. Capacity testing
Charge discharge cycle of battery: Use professional equipment such as a battery aging machine to test the battery capacity, which has the function of recording the actual capacity. If the capacity is lower than 80% of the nominal value (such as a 3000mAh battery that is actually less than 2400mAh), it is recommended to replace it.

5. Actual usage performance
Abnormal heating: When charging or using, the battery may have obvious heating (not slight temperature rise), which may result in internal short circuit or aging.
Charging abnormality: unable to fully charge, extremely slow charging speed, or frequent charger restarts.
Abnormal discharge: sudden jump in battery level (such as a sudden drop from 50% to 5%), or automatic shutdown of the device.
Please note:
Damaged lithium batteries may catch fire or explode, and should be stored in an environment that avoids punctures, short circuits, or high temperatures. Keep the battery level at 40% -60% when not in use for a long time and store it in a cool place. The aging of lithium batteries is irreversible, and if there are bulges or leaks, they must be replaced. Do not attempt to repair them forcefully.
